this about the Microwave Patent

The concept for the microwave oven was fumbled upon by a Raytheon Engineer, Percy Spencer in 1945. While studying radar technology, Mr. Spencer stepped in front of a magnetron (a device that generates high-frequency radio waves) and noticed that the chocolate bar in his pocket was melting. Mr. Spencer then put popcorn kernels near the device and soon popcorn was all over the lab floor. Spencer and Raytheon went on to develop the first microwave oven.
